Seeding lawns
Even the leveled and contoured soil around the house needed to be prepared for seeding new lawns.
Native soil was compacted and unsuitable for starting and growing grass so we prepared the surfaces, imported topsoil, and improved the fertility of that soil.
In the area near the house we bought sod and spread it out in smooth rows, proving the ongoing utility of the tractor.
In the back we broke the surface, cleared rocks and debris. Then we mixed top soil and the miracle soil Tagro to form a better surface for grass seeds to germinate and grow into.
This process was backbreaking. Because each area needed plentiful watering at first we developed small areas and then expanded to nearby soil we had prepared.
Our process was effective in establishing the lawn, so much so that elk couldn't leave it along and spent nightimes tearing out bits of rooted grass.
